Covered Bridge

Throughout the 19th century, local craftsmen, using a variety of lattice truss designs, built hundreds of covered wood bridges around the Granite State. Some were reinforced initially or later with wooden arches. The roofs and siding protected the structural members of the bridge from the elements. Today, many of the state's covered bridges are still in use; all are good subject matter for photographers and artists.
