New Hampshire has had fairs of various sorts since the 1720s. Some of the early fairs were for the purpose of exchanging goods. Most of the 19th-century fairs were agricultural. Today, New Hampshire's country fairs, held at community fairgrounds, offer local audiences and tourists a mixture of farm contests, races, amusement park rides, fast food, and live entertainment.
