Mount Washington

The highest peak in the Northeast at 6,288 feet. Sacred to area Native Americans, the first European known to ascend the mountain was Darby Field in 1634. Since 1861, the mountain has been accessible first by a carriage road and later an automobile road. The peak is especially notable for its record setting winds and rapidly changing weather.
