The White Mountains



The highest chain of mountains in the Northeastern United States, the "Whites" were once considered impenetrable. By the mid-19th century, they were a major source of timber, while attracting thousand of summer tourists, and later winter skiers. Since 1911, most of the White Mountains in New Hampshire have been part of the White Mountain National Forest.
