Scheduling Education Programs

[Guided Visits] [Traveling Programs] [Scheduling]
[Programs and Resources] [Teachers and Learners]

Overview
The New Hampshire Historical Society offers two sorts of program: guided tours of our galleries and traveling programs featuring artifacts and period reproduction objects. For either type of program, keep the following in mind: programs . . .
  • may be presented at your location or at our museum and library
    [except for gallery tours]
  • are designed to be one hour in length
[Booking time for guided museum tours is 90 minutes to allow time for visiting the museum gift shop and to allow for late arrival and other logistical issues.]
  • are available by reservation Monday through Friday
[Presentations in your classroom are arranged to meet your scheduling needs; standard starting times for presentations at the museum are 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Other times are easily arranged.]
  • are designed to accommodate up to 45 students for gallery tours and up to 30 students for traveling programs
  • should be reserved at least three weeks in advance
[Advance reservation help us meet your scheduling needs and assures that you receive our pre-visit support.]

Guided Gallery Tours

Tours for School Groups
$4 per person (with a minimum charge of $48). We admit one adult free for each day's visit. In addition, since we separate large groups into smaller divisions of 12 to 15 students, we grant one free adult admission for each smaller group. Please note that we do not schedule more than three small groups in the galleries at one time.

Our letter confirming your reservation will indicate the number of free adult admissions we have allotted you for your visit.

Chaperones and teachers are expected to assist museum staff with supervision and must remain with their groups at all times.

Tours for Adult Groups
Guided and self-guided group tours are available for groups of 12 or more. For adult tours, the fees are $4 per person for a guided tour (with a $48 minimum charge) and $3.50 per person for a self-guided tour (with a $42 minimum). Usually, one or two free admissions are allowed for the group's leaders.

Other Programs

Traveling Programs
$80 for the initial presentation of a program and $60 for any subsequent presentation in the same academic year. In addition, we charge mileage (at the IRS rate) plus tolls for round-trip travel. (Local historical societies should inquire about our programs and fees.)

Scheduling Aids
You may wish to download some of these scheduling aids to help prepare for a program.

Directions to the New Hampshire Historical Society Museum and Library
This map directs drivers to the museum's free parking lot and to the doors of the museum and the library. The State House is also shown on the map as is the general route to the Franklin Pierce Manse and to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center.

Cost Calculator for Guided Visits to the New Hampshire Historical Society's Museum or Library
This sheet allows a teacher to calculate the amount to write on the check that is to be brought to the museum on the day of the visit.

Mileage Charges for Traveling Programs
Schools considering a traveling program can check mileage charges from this standard list used by the museum. Please note that the listed charges do not include tolls.

Group Visits to the Museum Store
We include a visit to the store as part of the itinerary for school groups that have indicated they wish to let students shop. We allot approximately 15 minutes for each group of 12 to 15 students to assure that time in the store does not cut into scheduled time in the galleries. This document details how we work with school groups.
