Scope and Content: Undated photographic print of an unidentified fire fighter driving the horse-drawn steamer "Kearsarge" No. 2 in Concord, NH. The caption states, "Steamer 'Kearsarge,' No. 2. Second steamer. obtained under the ordinance of 1867. It was made by the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company of Manchester, N. H. The city in 1868 paid the company $4291.90 for this steamer. It was named 'Kearsarge,' No. 2 . and was located on Warren, between State and Green streets. Nathan H. Haskell, Foreman; George Gordon, Clerk; Benjamin F. Dunklee, Engineer; Daniel B. Newhall, George L. Lovejoy, William M. Leaver, George A. Glover, James Ring, William Badger, Warren H. Corning, Horace Carter, Lewis C. Carter members of the company. 000---000 from the report of Acting Chief Engineer, Concord Feb. 1, 1868. 'the hand companies have left the service, sundering the pleasant associations and ties cemented by an association of many years duration, with no expression of ill-feeling, but in a manner reflecting the highest credit upon themselves, personally, and upon their organizations. These companies have, in the past, rendered efficient service, and acquired a reputation which will endure far in the future, but have been compelled to give way to the march of improvement in material for extinguishment of fires.'
