Scope and Content: Photographic print of Buffalo Bill on a stagecoach built by the Abbot-Downing Company during its return trip to Concord, NH, in 1895. Caption reads: "from the Evening Monitor-Friday July 5, 1895. DEADWOOD MAIL - Old coach build by Abbot Downing Co. which left Concord in 1868 to plunge into the most checkered career with which the name Concord was ever associated. This old coach was warmly welcomed home, and its side were adorned with the legend: 1868 Home Again 1895 / Inside the coach were Lewis Downing Jr. President of Abbot-Downing Co., B F Leavitt, Charles P Virgin, J J Mills and George Williams old employees of the shops, whose average term of service was 47 years. These men were the godfathers of the 'Deadwood Mail' and before the parade this interesting photograph was made by Kimball in the yard of the shops on south Main street. Mr. Chesley, the veteran carriagesmith, declared that he had iron that coach 27 years ago, producing a pocket knife, he scraped away the rust from the running gear (the paint had long since disappeared) and disclosed the telltale initials/ During the parade Mayor Henry Robinson rode on the box beside Buffalo Bill."
