Scope and Content: Volume titled "Bummers Records at the White Hills," dedicated by a T.R.B., which details travels to the White Mountains in August 1867 to 1868. The volume was made by a young, unmarried man, initially with an older male companion and then alone. The author describes the hotels in which he stays, with details about size and siting, number of rooms, charges and fees, menus, entertainments, and fellow travelers, in addition to the walks and rides he takes to mountains, lakes, and waterfalls. Some of these locations include Crystal Cascade, Glen Ellis Falls, the Lizzie Bourne Monument, the Flume, and the Old Mount Crawford House. Kinds of conveyance are also described (various horse-drawn carriages, trains, etc.). He often uses then-current slang. He describes flirtations with women and his admiration for those who do things not usually associated with mid-19th century female behavior, such as riding outside on the top of a coach, climbing a mountain, and teasing strangers. One of the men may have been George Perkins of Salem, MA, as a letter quoted in the volume is addressed to Perkins. A portion of the volume is written in verse.
