Scope and Content: The Amherst Congregational Church Records, 1741-1957, contain records related to the activities and members of the Amherst Congregational Church and Society in Amherst, NH. The collection contains a variety of documents including receipts, bills pew plans, deeds, contracts, church warrants, correspondence, minutes, and other miscellaneous documents. Many of the receipts, bills, and deeds relate to the buying and selling of church pews. There are also documents covering the building of a new organ for the meeting house. The church warrants were issued by the church clerk calling church members to attend a meeting. Much of the correspondence deals with the selection of a new minister. The eulogies are copies of eulogies given in memory of Nathan Lord, who served as minister at the Amherst Congregational Church. The Amherst Congregational Church Records also include eight volumes of church records and accounts, one volume of the Women's Christian Temperance Union records, and one volume of the Secretary's Records for the Gentlemen's Association in Amherst, which is auxiliary to the American Board of Commissioners to Foreign Missions. The volumes of church records contain the meeting minutes, membership lists, church accounts, baptism records, death records, marriage records, and dismissals. These records provide extensive information on the operational history of the church and its members.
