Scope and Content: The General John Sullivan Papers consist mainly of correspondence for the years 1769-1792, but heavily weighted to the years 1775-1779, the years Sullivan served in the Continental Army. Within these years, the bulk of the correspondence pertains to the Rhode Island campaign. The subject matter of the correspondence is largely military: strategy, planning, supply, orders, troop's strength. There is some political comment, principally in the correspondence for the years 1780-1782.

Arrangment: The General John Sullivan Papers are arranged chronologically in twenty-eight folders, fourteen folders per box, with 16-20 items per folder.
