Scope and Content: Plymouth lawyer, Democrat. Papers are chiefly writings, drafts of articles by "A citizen" which appeared in the N.H. Patriot., 1827-1828, after much revision; a toast "to our republican institutions"; article concerning President Adams' "Ebony and Topaz" toast; there are three items concerning elections and the Democratic party, 1810. There is a list of members of the House of Representatives under Republican and Federal party labels, 1830; a political article 1834. There is a debate concerning a large army, 1811 and a pro-slavery argument denouncing the abolitionist society. There are some notes taken from the early town records about the meeting house and the ministry; an account with the Hon. Daniel Webster, 1813; and a page from a journal of Joseph Meloon, 1821. There is an insurance policy with the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Co., 1853, and a law suit, 1856-57, with Samuel C. Cummings, merchant, a son.
