Scope and Content: Copy made by James W. Emery, of an agreement that Josiah G. Hadley and Amos L. Jenness, both of Portsmouth, NH, will advance $300.00 to Hazen Runnells, also of Portsmouth, NH, to pay his expenses for a trip to California as a member of the Rockingham Mutual Mining & Trading Company. Hazen agrees to repay the $300.00, and to pay to Hadley and Jenness half of any profits he makes during two years, if the profits amount to at least $2,000.00. The agreement was made on February 3, 1849.
