Scope and Content: Photographic print of Arthur Walden and Chinook inscribed on July 10, 1932. The inscription on the photograph reads, "Chinook / to Major Hammond / from a friend / Arthur Walden / July 10/32." The photograph was taken prior to 1929 as Chinook lived from 1917 to 1929. In the photograph Arthur Walden is standing with his left arm touching Chinook in a wintery scene. Chinook was the famous lead-dog of Admiral Richard E. Byrd's Antarctic expedition. Walden later became the founder of the Chinook Kennels in Wonalancet, NH. The Chinook is the state dog of New Hampshire.
