Description: Marking Sampler. Made by Betsy Philbrick (1791-1863), Weare, NH; c. 1800. Unfinished, no date. Blue, black, and beige cotton cross stitching on plain-woven linen. One alphabet of fancy block capital letters is worked across four lines, each separated by a simple line of cross stitches, followed by "BETSY" in capital script letters. All four sides of the linen are hemmed. Simple cross stitching forms a border line along the sides and top.
