Description: Marking Sampler. Made by Lucia M. Greenough (1826-1914), Boscawen, NH, c. 1835. Light green and cream silk twist thread worked entirely in cross stitch on loosely woven tan linen. The first alphabet is capital block letters, followed by an ampersand and numbers one through nine. The second alphabet is lower-case. The bottom line bears the inscription: "Lucia Greenou." Simple lines of cross stitching in green border the sampler and divide the lines of alphabets. The left side of the linen is selvage; other three sides are hemmed.
