Description: Globe. Solid wood terrestrial globe, painted putty color (possibly once white) with brown markings. Degree marks plain but land outlines almost entirely worn off. Names and places in script. Polar points of globe are held by two steel pins set into an oak hoop which, in turn, rests on a natural pine stand having a circular opening in the center, surrounded by eleven concentric circles incised in the wood. Stand is supported by four hand-cut, splayed legs extending in milking-stool fashion.

Provenance: Made by Samuel Lane (1718-1806), Stratham, NH, 1760. Anna M. Lane (1865-1957), the donor, was the great-great-granddaughter of William Lane (1723-1802) of Hampton, a younger brother of Samuel Lane (1718-1806).
