Description: Wood engraving, The Ghost Story, by Frank French (1850-1933). One of 39 pages in Volume 2 of a two-volume set. Black ink on tissue paper. Horizontal rectangle. Nine people and one dog around a table by a fireplace. One man is standing at table, leaning on right hand, and gesturing with left. One woman is standing against wall by fireplace on right. One other woman is obscured by standing man's arm. All men, except the one standing, are smoking long pipes. Dog is curled up by table, asleep. Tall case clock is against wall on left of fireplace. Mantle over fireplace holds various objects, identifiable ones are a candlestick and lantern. Three ceiling beams are visible over assembly. "Ben[?]" in lower left. "Frank French Sc / 1886" in lower right. Signed in pencil below image "Frank French" right.
