Marian Cannon Schlesinger Artist and author Marian Cannon Schlesinger (1912–2017) was born in Franklin, New Hampshire, and was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After graduating from Radcliffe College, she studied art in China for a year. Schlesinger created images of mill towns that grew up on the inland rivers and streams across New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts, as they looked during the 1970s and 1980s. Her atmospheric drawings and watercolors capture New England mill communities as the textile industry was declining and mills were beginning to disappear. The drawings and watercolors featured in this online exhibition have been selected from a collection of 83 works given to the New Hampshire Historical Society by the artist.
