Key priorities and goals of the New Hampshire Historical Society are to enhance the lives of residents and visitors by fostering a greater appreciation of our common history and culture and to improve the quality of history, civics, and social studies education statewide. To achieve these goals, the Society provides a variety of engaging and enjoyable learning experiences and resources for children and adults.
Guidelines for Social Studies Education in New Hampshire Schools
In June 2022 the New Hampshire Historical Society and the New Hampshire Council for the Social Studies released guidelines providing school administrators, school boards, and parents with a road map for renewing social studies education in the state. The “Guidelines for Social Studies Education in New Hampshire Schools” offer eight key principles schools can implement to deliver high-quality instruction in history, civics, geography, and economics.

Democracy Project and Moose on the Loose
In 2017 the New Hampshire Historical Society launched the Democracy Project: Renewing History and Civics Education in New Hampshire Schools, a major initiative to help address the alarming deficit in history, civics, and socials studies education among Granite State students. The Society has raised $1.1 million to fund the creation of a new comprehensive educational resource called Moose on the Loose: Social Studies for Granite State Kids, a major component of the Democracy Project.
