Description: Teapot. Manufactured by the Wilcox Silver Plate Company, Meriden, CT; 1870-1873. Silverplated white metal. Oval body with angular handle, S-shaped spout, hinged lid with finial in the form of a sphinx, and four legs with hoof feet and masks as body joinings. Handle has two insulators, either of shell or composition material. Spout has built in strainer.
Chased and engraved decoration including landscape view of an asian scene with mountain in background and house and boat in foreground, scrolls, tassels, and black letter "S". Impressed mark on bottom: "Wilcox Silver Plate Co." in circle, with "119" below.

Provenance: Found by donor in china cabinet of camp which he purchased in 1940 in South Chatham, NH.
