Description: Cake Basket. Manufactured by Rogers, Smith & Company, New Haven, CT, 1865. Silver-plated white metal. Open, oval concave body with tapered oval foot. Hinged semicircular handle attached to rim. Scrolled leaf bands bottom of foot and edge of rim. Two scrolled, chased leaf and flower handles. Greek key band engraved around circumference of exterior with Gothic script "J" engraved in scrolled cartouche on front. Stamped in round seal on bottom: "ROGERS SMITH & CO / NEW HAVEN Ct. / No. / 1690". Part of eight-piece silver-plated teaset presented to Mrs. Caroline E. Johnson by the First Baptist Society, Concord, NH, 1865.
