A children's picture book, first published in 1992 and reprinted 2016, adapted and illustrated by Loretta Krupinski from Among the Isles of Shoals by Celia Thaxter. In 32 pages of full color illustrations, Celia's Island Journal pictorializes the experiences of a young girl (Celia Thaxter) growing up in the mid-19th century on an isolated island off the coast of New England, where her father keeps a lighthouse. Celia Laighton Thaxter (1835–94) was one of the most popular poets of the late 19th century and a leading literary figure who counted among her friends such writers as John Greenleaf Whittier, Sarah Orne Jewett, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. She is best remembered today for her non-fiction books, An Island Garden and Among the Isles of Shoals.
