Description: Drawing, untitled, by George C. Soule (1914-2008), 1936. Pencil on paper. Five sketches of CCC workers at leisure. Top scene depicts two men playing cards, identified as "Shorty Miencko & / The Mad [?] / Jan. [? 1936]" (partly cut off when paper was trimmed and punched). Four other sketches below. On reverse is a photostatic copy of drawing of drafting room at Grenier Field in Manchester, nearly identical to 2009.026.046 a. Unframed.

Provenance: George C. Soule (1914-2008) of Manchester, NH, was an artist with the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Hampshire, 1935-1937. He was assigned to draw portraits of CCC workers and to document camp life. He studied art at Yale and became an architect in Manchester. He operated the firm of Soule & Associates from the 1950s through the 1980s. He designed schools, churches, houses, and a wide variety of commercial buildings in southern NH and southern New England. The collection was donated by the children of George Soule.
