Description: Marking Sampler. Made by Hannah Plumer (1770-1850), Epping, NH; 1781. Blue and tan linen threads worked in cross stitch on plain-woven linen, featuring an alphabet of capital block letters followed by the date 1781 and initials HP. "HANNAH*PLUMER / EPPING HER SAMP" is cross-stitched on the next two lines of this four-line sampler. The left edge is selvage, and the other three edges are hemmed.

Provenance: Made by Hannah Plumer (1770-1850), married Col. Daniel Cilley (1769-1842) and was a sister of Gov. William Plumer. She was the great-great-grandmother of the donor, Evelyn Fowler Reed (1899-1993).
