(Cream colors were originally pink, and tan was red, as can be seen on the reverse.) Below the alphabets is the inscription and verse: "Wrought by Almira Ring Loudon Aged / 12 years July 27 1836 / Like a may day bright and cloudless Youth is va / nishing away / Every joy the world can furnish hastens quickly to / decay." At the bottom is a basket of flowers, flanked by stylized floral designs. Undulating strawberry vine border up sides and across top. In addition to cross and Algerian eye stitches, this sampler employs a row of queen stitch separating alphabets, and satin, and outline stitches in the floral motifs. Four sides are hemmed.
