Plied cotton threads worked on plain-woven linen with five alphabets: first, script capital letters in cross stitch, variously in dark blue, tan, cream, and gray, followed by numbers one through nine; second, fancy block capitals in cross stitch, in tan, cream and gray, followed by an ampersand and numbers one through nine; third, block capital letters in cross stitch in cream and mostly gray; fourth, lower-case letters in cross stitch in a large scale; and fifth, block capital letters worked in Algerian eye stitch in cream and mostly gray, letters A through O. Following that partial alphabet is the inscription, "SUSAN C JACOBS" in a brick red color, then "Rooxbe S Jacobs S J." The right edge of the linen is selvage; the other edges are hemmed. One line of a sawtooth design separating lines of alphabets is worked with satin stitch; the rest of the sampler is all cross stitch or Algerian eye stitch.
