Description: Sampler, marking, made by Clarissa Wells (1817-1879), Sandown, NH, 1828. Cross-stitched in tan, light blue, and dark blue cotton threads on loosely woven linen with three alphabets: first, block capital letters A through Z; second, script capital letters A through W; third lower-case letters, a through t. Inscription across the bottom: "Clarissa Wells Aged 11." The bottom edge is selvage; the other three sides are hemstitched.

Provenance: Clarissa Wells (1817-1879) was born in Sandown, NH. She married John Eastman. Purchased at the estate auction of Clarissa (Wells) Eastman's grand-daughter, Henrietta Johnson Davis (1886-1984) of Rollinsford, NH.
Was age 11.
