Description: Sampler. Record of the White family. Made by Ann M. White (1823-1852), Chester, NH; 1830-1835. Four bands of cross-stitched alphabets across the top: upper-case capitals, upper-case block, and lower-case block letters. Below these lines is stitched a "Family Record" of the White family, giving "Births Marriages Deaths," starting with the marriage on Dec. 12, 1811 of John White July 19, 1783 and Sophia Wilkins May 21, 1788. "Their Children" / Caroline White Sept 25 1812 Dec 28 1819 / William H. White Sept 8 1814 / Caroline White Oct 26 1819 Sept 13 1821 / Ann M White Jun 6 1823 / James White Feb 8 1826." All letters of the alphabets and family register are worked in black silk thread in cross stitch. The sides of the sampler are bordered with undulating floral vines in green, red, pink, yellow, dark blue, and cream silk threads worked in outline and satin stitches. The lower quarter of the sampler is unfinished and blank. Coarsely woven linen fabric, with the selvage forming the top edge; other three sides have a hem-stitched edge.
