Worked mostly in cross stitch with bands of alphabets: first, capital block letters followed by numbers one through sixteen; second, large capital letters with curlycue flourishes (which are unusual on American samplers, and may indicate a Scottish influence); third, large capital letters in the block style; fourth, script capital letters; fifth, small-scale block capital letters; sixth, lower-case block letters; seventh, capital block letters. Inscription at bottom: "BETSEY CONNOR MOREY," with the first letter of each word much larger than the rest. Bottom edge of linen is selvage; other sides are hemmed. A few of the lines between alphabets are worked in outline and half-cross (or slant) stitches; the rest is all cross stitches. Thread colors are shades of brown and blue.
