Description: Sampler. Made by Junia Loretta Bartlett (1810-1849), Kingston, NH; 1819. Dyed linen plain weave ground with silk embroidery threads in pinks, greens, blues, and yellows. All four edges of the linen are folded to the back and hemmed with green silk. Inside this green hem stitching is a light green saw-tooth border. An ornate set of capital letters fills the upper half of the vertical sampler in alternating rows of pink Alsatian stitch (now faded to beige) and blue satin stitch. Beneath is a lower case cross-stitch alphabet in pink, which has faded to a slightly darker beige. A second set of cross-stitch capital letters, ending with the letter U, is followed by a second set of lower case letters and the numerals 1 2 3. At the bottom sampler is the signature "Junia L.
