Description: Sampler. Made by Laura A. Emery (1815-1855), Jaffrey, NH, 1827. Embroidered silk on linen. Two alphabets and numbers stitched in brown on eight bands in center. "Laura A Emery Jaffrey 1827" stitched in brown along bottom. Trailing band of roses and leaves stitched on top and two sides.

Provenance: Laura Abigail Emery (1815-1855) was born and lived in Jaffrey, NH, the youngest of nine children of William Emery (1758-1840) and Mary Stanley (1767-1827). Her father was a farmer from Townsend, MA, who settled in Jaffrey during the Revolution. After the death of her father, Abigail lived in Jaffrey with her elder sister, Nancy A. Robbins.
