Scope and Content: Letter from Joseph H. Balch in Plaquemine, LA, to James M. Rix in Lancaster, NH, on June 8, 1852. Balch writes that he has heard of the nomination of Franklin Pierce, and that the Democratic Party in Plaquemine is pleased with the nomination. As editor of the Iberville Gazette, he hopes that Rix will send some of Pierce's anti-abolition speeches for printing in his paper. Rix worked for the Coos County Democrat.
