Description: Tablespoon. Made by Rogers & Brother, Waterbury, CT; c. 1865. "Olive" pattern. Silver-plated metal. Pointed-ended handle, with slightly upturned end. Reeded and scrolled pattern on front and back of handle and stem, with cluster of leaves at top and bottom of handle, and base of stem. Roulette engraved black lettering, upper- and lower-case, on front of handle, "Spear". Stamped or cast on back of stem: "ROGERS & BRO AI", preceded by a five-pointed star, in upper-case roman letters, incuse. Also stamped on back of stem, "12", incuse. one of a set of four (1998.12.4-.7).

This set perhaps belonged to donor's husband's grandparents (his mother's parents), Martha Helena Jones (1841-1906) and Edward Henry Spear (1837-1912), of New Ipswich, NH, and elsewhere; they were married 1865.
