Provenance: The original coin made by William Moulton (1720-1793) in 1776 in response to New Hampshire's request for a pure copper coin equal in weight to an English half-pence. Apparently, few of these coins were actually produced. William Moulton, born in Newburyport, MA, was active as a silversmith from 1742-1762 in Newburyport and from 1762-1788 in Hampstead, NH.
