Scope and Content: The Last Words and Dying Speech details Thomas Powers' life, noting he was an African American man born in Norwich, CT, and was put into service by his mother at 2 years old. Powers goes on to discuss the many robberies and rapes he committed in his life and states he sold his body to doctors for the sum of $10.00. He was executed for rape in Haverhill, NH on July 28, 1796. Also included is a letter from Lucy Wright in Fairlee, VT, to Thomas Powers dated June 27, 1796, and a letter from James Gooch in Haverhill, NH, to Thomas Powers dated July 26, 1796.
