Scope and Content: The Plumer Family of Epping Papers is a heterogeneous collection, which spans most of the 19th Century. For each individual there is a handful of assorted papers, and the type of material present is inconsistent. Walter Edgerly's papers include a few school standing cards, a bill, and a business letter. A different Edgerly, Joseph, appears in an 1822 affidavit found in Samuel Plumer's papers. The town of Epping has documents on their roads, supporting a minister, and taxes. The Knox family include materials for Elizabeth, Sarah, and William, including a deed, Pembroke Academy's acknowledgement of a gift, and a list of stock holdings. The Ladd family includes a wedding announcement and correspondence from Clara, Lizzie, and Peter Ladd. Annie Plumer is represented by school essays, "Aunt Dorothy's Will," and a handwriting exercise book. Daniel Plumer's materials include deeds, contracts, and financial records. David Plumer is represented by a will, and George Plumer a poem on handbill "Old-Time Pedlers." Samuel Plumer's papers include a will, affidavit of Timothy Rix about several Plumer men and their involvement in a situation involving Joseph Edgerly, and financial records. There are probably several Samuel Plumers represented in this collection, as the will is dated 1803 and other papers date to 1860. William Plumer's papers include receipts and an anti-Jefferson memo in which the writer thinks Jefferson's recommendation of dry docks for ships is unnecessary. Other Plumer papers include a record of expenditures, many from one Plumer to another. Also included is a folder of unidentified poems and a photograph of an unidentified man and baby. Although one William Plumer (1759-1850) served in the New Hampshire Legislature, United States Senate, and as New Hampshire Governor, no materials here address or relate to those activities.
