Scope and Content: The Jeremiah Yancey Papers, 1778-1818, consist of letters primarily from Jeremiah Yancey, Second Lieutenant of the 8th U.S. Infantry, commanding U.S. recruiting rendezvous at Portsmouth, NH. The letters are predominately to Major Loring Austin about his work, such as paying musicians, issues with recruitment, and apprehending deserters, dated from August 1st to October 5th, 1818. Also includes a letter from James Yancey to Brigadier General Poor dated May 10, 1778.
