Abstract: The Charles Hazen Peaslee Correspondence includes letters about his legal practice, submitting pension applications for soldiers, the New Hampshire Insane Asylum, and a few political letters. The correspondence dates from 1831 to 1852.
Scope and Content: The Charles Hazen Peaslee Correspondence provides some business letters of a new lawyer working on a variety of cases. He was a principal founder and trustee of the Insane Asylum. The letters he received about the matter from 1838 to 1839 (in folder 2) give some insight into the organization and the controversy of the location of the asylum. Other letters recommend persons for local postmasters, as well as discussing other political matters such as the election campaign of 1832, candidates for senator, and pension claims. Charles Hazen Peaslee was a law partner with John Hatch George while in Congress.
