Abstract: Frank R. Kenison was a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association for 48 years and served Chief Justice for over a quarter of a century, from 1952 to 1977. The Frank R. Kenison Papers, 1941-1978, contain Kenison's professional correspondence, dedications and awards, addresses and speeches, conference materials, and general and legal subject files.
Scope and Content: The Frank R. Kenison Papers, 1941-1978, contain correspondence, awards, speeches, conference materials, reports, articles, memberships, and the legal and general subject files of Chief Justice Frank Rowe Kenison, documenting his activities during his extensive legal career. This collection has been divided into seven series. The largest series in this collection is of professional correspondence to, from, and about Frank R. Kenison, which dates from 1941 to 1978, and includes postcards, letters, and copies of letter discussing court cases, appointments, court procedures, and Kenison's recommendation to the United States Supreme Court. Further correspondence can be found throughout the collection. Notable items in the collection include a folder in series one, which contains recommendations for Kenison to be appointed to the position of Supreme Court Justice of the United States when Abe Fortis retired and ten folders in series five of information, notes, and articles on Supreme Court Justice Charles Doe (1830-1896), including considerable correspondence with John Reid.
