Abstract: Papers, 1758-1818, related to General John Stark, 1728-1822, including correspondence, military commissions, returns of strength, personal and military accounts, personal and military receipts, miscellaneous papers, and account books.

Scope and Content: The John Stark Papers, 1758-1819, include papers related to the life and military career of General John Stark. Most of the material in the collection related to Stark's service during the American Revolution as commander of the 1st New Hampshire Regiment and later, the Northern Department. The papers are divided into seven series: Series I. Correspondence, 1755-1811, Series II. Military Commissions, 1758-1786, Series III. Returns of Strength, 1775-1781, Series IV. Personal and Military Accounts, 1775-1816, Series V. Personal and Military Receipts, 1760-1814, Series VI. Miscellaneous Papers, 1743-1814, and Series VII. Account Books, 1775-1784. This collection also contains a box of copied microfilmed correspondence housed at the Library of Congress.
