Abstract: Papers, 1763-1787, consist of correspondence, accounts, commissions, deeds, and an inventory of estate. Some of the letters are Bedel's copies rather than the orignials, especially those of General James Clinton, General Thomas Conway, General Horatio Gates, the Marquis de Lafayette, and General John Stark.

Scope and Content: The Timothy Bedel Papers, 1763-1787, consist primarily of correspondence, accounts, commissions, deeds, and an inventory of estate. The material relates to Bedel's and Moses Hazen's business affairs especially land purchases in northern New Hampshire and Vermont and the controversy over the New Hampshire grants. Major topics of correspondence are plans from military expeditions against Canada and the defense of the northern Connecticut River Valley. Major correspondents include Brigadier General Jacob Bayley (1726-1815) and Colonel Moses Hazen (1733-1803). Other correspondents include General Horatio Gates, Philip Schuyler, General John Stark, and General George Washington.
