Many of the letters in this collection are from Henry Tredick, Jr. to his father, William Tredick, reporting on his voyages as captain of the family's ships. Others are from various captains employed by the Tredicks including George Vennard, Christopher Amazeen, and James Drisco. Also housed with the collection is an account book of Henry Tredick, Jr. An index of names in the account book follows in this finding aid. A large part of this collection is housed in oversize materials; primarily consisting of crew lists and customs registers. Items of interest in this collection include a letter to Timothy Pickering from Martin Parry dated April 3, 1800 regarding the heroic actions of the slave Moses A. who was captured by the French twice. The letter asks for Timothy Pickering's intervention in freeing the slave. There is also an agreement between Ephraim Butler of Berwick, ME, and William Tredick of Portsmouth, NH, to "build & cause to be build a Brigantine of the following dimensions." This agreement is two full pages of detailed descriptions of specification for size, type of lumber, and size of lumber used in building the brigantine. The agreement in dated June 15, 1796 and notes the hull is to be completed by September 1, 1796. In addition, there is a sales agreement from Ephraim Butler dated June 15, 1796 that agrees to sell "brig now on stocks at Somersworth, N.H." Later handwriting says this sales agreement is for the brigantine Anna.
